An IGI report tells you, in writing, what the diamond in front of you actually is: its carat weight, its color grade, its clarity grade, and the quality of its polish and symmetry. It is the difference between a seller's promise and a lab's measurement. Here is how to read one, and what it will not tell you.
What the report confirms
IGI is a major international gem grading lab. Its report lists the stone's carat weight, color on the D to Z scale, clarity from Flawless down to Included, and finish grades for polish and symmetry. On round diamonds, IGI also prints an overall cut grade. On other shapes, like ovals and emerald cuts, a cut grade is usually not printed unless it was specifically requested, so on most fancy-shape reports that field is blank. That is normal, not a red flag.
Check the number yourself
Every IGI report has a report number you can type into igi.org and verify in about a minute. If a seller shows you grades but will not show you a report number, that is your answer. At Beylora, the factory must send us the IGI report number for your center stone, and we verify it before the stone is ever set.
What the report does not tell you
Three things. First, the small accent stones on a band are not certified one by one anywhere in the industry; the report covers the center stone. At Beylora, accent stones are held to the same color and clarity floor as the center stone and arrive as a matched group. Second, the report says nothing about the setting: how the stone is held, finished, and stamped. Each Beylora ring is hand-set and hand-finished, and stamped inside the band with its metal fineness mark, our maker's mark, and the ring's own unit ID. Third, the report says nothing about the seller's terms. The certificate can be perfect and the return policy can still be a trap, which is why we wrote a checklist for buying online.
