Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds. They have the same chemistry, the same hardness, and the same sparkle as diamonds pulled from the ground. The differences are where they come from and what they cost. That is why every Beylora center stone is a lab-grown diamond.

What is a lab-grown diamond?

A lab-grown diamond is pure crystallized carbon, the same material as a mined diamond, grown in a controlled lab over a few weeks instead of underground over a billion years. Gem labs grade both kinds on the same scale: cut, color, clarity, and carat. On the grading report, the origin line is the only thing that reads differently.

Is a lab-grown diamond a real diamond?

Yes. It is not a look-alike like cubic zirconia or moissanite. It measures 10 out of 10 on the Mohs hardness scale, refracts light the way a diamond does, and reads as diamond on a jeweler's diamond tester. It will not cloud, fade, or wear down over time, because it is diamond.

Lab-grown diamond vs moissanite: what is the difference?

A lab-grown diamond is diamond: pure crystallized carbon, grown in a lab. Moissanite is a different material, silicon carbide, cut to look like diamond. Moissanite is softer (9.25 versus 10 on the Mohs scale), bends light more and throws more rainbow fire, and is not graded on the D to Z color and clarity scales that IGI uses for diamonds.

What do D color and VVS2 clarity mean?

Diamond color is graded from D to Z. D is the top of the scale and means no detectable color at all: pure, icy white. Clarity runs from Flawless down to Included. VVS2 means very, very slightly included: even a trained grader needs magnification to find anything. Every Beylora center stone is a lab-grown diamond graded D color and VVS2 clarity or better, with Excellent polish and Excellent symmetry on its certificate. Accent stones are held to the same color and clarity floor and arrive as a matched group; the IGI report covers the center stone.

Why the top grades matter for price

In lab-grown diamonds, the top of the scale still costs real money. As of August 2026, a loose 2 carat round lab diamond graded D and VVS2 runs about $1,850 at a major online diamond retailer, and about $2,600 as an oval, before any setting. Most sellers handle that cost by letting you step down a few grades. We hold D and VVS2 as the floor instead, and a complete Beylora ring, stone and setting together, starts at $1,800 at 2 carats and $2,500 at 3 carats.

What is IGI certification?

IGI is a major international gem grading lab. Each Beylora center stone comes with its own IGI report, and we verify the report number before the stone is ever set. Round center stones carry a printed IGI cut grade. For other shapes, IGI grades polish and symmetry, and every Beylora certificate shows Excellent for both.
