Lab-Grown Diamonds

Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds? Yes. A lab-grown diamond is diamond grown in a laboratory, with nearly the same chemical, optical and physical properties as a natural diamond. It is not moissanite or cubic zirconia. Specialized laboratory equipment can tell the two origins apart, which is why every Beylora center diamond comes with an individual IGI grading report.

When you compare engagement rings, establish what the center stone is, what its individual report says and what the complete ring costs. Those are three separate checks.

What is a lab-grown diamond?

Natural and laboratory-grown diamonds share a carbon crystal structure and closely comparable chemical, optical and physical properties. Their growth histories differ, and gemological laboratories can distinguish their origins using specialized equipment. A similar appearance does not make every diamond look-alike a diamond. Beylora uses lab-grown center diamonds. You choose a complete engagement-ring design, center carat weight, metal and US ring size; you do not need to build a separate loose-diamond quote before seeing the ring price.

Lab-grown diamond or moissanite: what should the listing tell you?

The FTC's gemstone buying guide recommends getting origin, weight or size, treatments and care information in the sales paperwork. A home tester result alone does not give you that complete record. Ask what the test identifies and what remains unverified.

What do D color and VVS2 clarity tell you?

Beylora's engagement-ring center diamonds are D color and VVS clarity (VVS1 or VVS2), with Excellent polish and Excellent symmetry. The individual IGI report covers the center diamond. Engagement-ring accent diamonds are lab-grown. We do not state a color or clarity grade for accents, and they have no individual IGI reports. Wedding bands likewise carry no diamond grades or individual reports.

How do I check the report?

1. Record the report number and the exact product/configuration it is being used to describe.
2. Use the laboratory's own lookup, then compare the result with the supplied report and listing.
3. Read the stated origin, weight, dimensions, grades and comments; ask about any mismatch or missing information.
4. Keep the center-diamond evidence separate from the setting, accent stones and wedding band.

IGI grades cut for round and fancy-shaped diamonds. Read the grades actually assigned on the individual report; Excellent polish and symmetry do not, by themselves, establish an overall Excellent cut grade. See IGI's cut-grading process.

Do lab-grown diamonds get cloudy?

Diamond's high scratch resistance does not make a ring indestructible. A diamond can chip under an impact, and its metal setting needs care. Oils and surface dirt can affect how a stone looks. That is different from identifying its material or explaining a particular cloudy appearance. GIA distinguishes hardness from toughness; its cleaning guidance explains surface buildup.

Do lab-grown diamonds test as real diamonds?

A lab-grown diamond is diamond, not moissanite or cubic zirconia. Separating lab-grown from natural takes what GIA describes as advanced gemological and spectroscopic techniques, so a home tester result is not a record of origin. The individual grading report states the origin; check its number on the laboratory's own site.

IGI or GIA for a lab-grown diamond?

Both are independent gemological laboratories that issue reports on laboratory-grown diamonds. Beylora center diamonds carry individual IGI reports. Get five things in writing: laboratory-grown origin, the individual report number, the color, clarity and cut grades actually assigned, the center's measurements, and the complete price including the setting.
