Which looks bigger, an oval or a round diamond?
Carat measures weight, while millimeter measurements describe dimensions. An oval's length can create an elongated look on the finger, but two diamonds of the same carat weight can have different proportions. Compare the actual length and width, rather than treating an example measurement as a guarantee for every stone.
The setting and your ring size also affect how the finished ring looks on your hand. Use our US ring sizing guide to establish the size you need, and ask for the available specifications of the ring you are considering.
Which sparkles more?
Both oval and round brilliant diamonds can have lively sparkle. Shape is only part of the picture: the individual diamond's cut and the lighting affect its appearance. D color and VVS2 clarity are separate grades, so those letters alone do not establish which of two stones will have the light performance you prefer.

What should you know about an oval's bow-tie?
The term bow-tie describes a darker area across the center of some elongated diamonds. IGI includes bow-tie assessment among the shape-specific checks in its fancy-shape cut process. A color or clarity grade does not, by itself, tell you how visible that area will be in the diamond you receive.
Use the product images and any interactive 3D views to compare the setting and outline. These design views do not verify the appearance of the individual center diamond that will be set in your ring. Ask us what additional information is available for a particular ring before ordering.
How do cut, polish and symmetry grades differ?
Read the individual IGI report. IGI offers overall cut grading for round brilliants and fancy shapes, including ovals. Polish and symmetry describe finish and facet alignment; they do not replace an overall cut grade. If the report does not list an overall cut grade, do not infer one.

Does an oval or a round cost more?
Compare the complete price for the configurations you are considering. The design, carat size and metal matter; knowing only the shape does not give you the finished-ring price.
